Drostonalone propionate is an androgen and anabolic steroid, it is used for palliation of androgen-responsive recurrent breast cancer in women who are more than one
year but less than five years postmenopausal.
Drostanolone propionate causes a decrease or inhibition of prolactin or estrogen receptors in the breasts, which is linked to its antitumor effect. It also interacts with
the androgen receptor and activates a cascade of genetic changes, including increased protein synthesis (anabolism) and decreased amino acid degradation
(catabolism).
- An allergy or hypersensitivity to the drostanolone propionate or to any other component of this drug.
- Breast cancer in males.
- Known or suspected prostate cancer.
- Pregnancy – confirmed or planned.
- Serious cardiac disease.
- Chronic hepatic or renal diseases.
Dosage and side effects
This drug is administered only intramuscularly. The recommended dose is 1,4 mg/kg of body weight 3 times a week.
Like all medicines, Drostonalone propionate can cause side effects. The drug has no estrogenic effects.
The following side effects (frequency data not available) were observed during the treatment:
In women: the appearance of irreversible signs of virilization (see Precautions).
In men: baldness, increased body hair growth, acne, suppression own testosterone production, which leads to a decrease in muscle volume and strength, decreased
libido, erectile dysfunction, and increased irritability. In both sexes: hypercalcemia, increased bad cholesterol levels, a significant reduction of good cholesterol levels
